The minute I see that RTC has put up another pair of great denim, the first thing I look for is that magic number. No, not my denim size, but my inseam.
See, for years, I’ve been told many times (too many) that a store or brand had “long” length jeans or pants. I’d get my hopes up, only to have them crushed when I tried the pants on. Highwaters… again. This brings back so many bad memories from when I was a kid.
People don’t seem to understand my frustrations. I often hear, “I wish I had your legs.” To which I reply, “You would until you had to buy pants.” How hard can it be you ask?
I am 6′ tall and I have a 35″ inseam. Not only that, but I am thin. So while some brands do have longer inseams, the smallest waist size still might be too large for me. I am talking mostly about department stores, catalogs and specialty stores that cater to tall women. Their style is not very current and the quality from such companies, in my opinion, is lacking.
While I realize that girls looking for a 35″ inseam (or longer) are not the norm, I thought there might be a few out there who would appreciate this information. I’ve spent a lot of time online looking for pants that fit. I have compiled some of that info here for the other leggy ladies.
On a budget?
- Old Navy Website. While their store carries a “long” length, it is only a 34″ inseam. Online, however, the “tall” length is a 36″ inseam. Occasionally, Old Navy has a great sale on jeans for $7 each (limit 3 pairs). I find their clothes in general to run a bit large (I can wear a 2 in their pants).
- Gap Website. Just like Old Navy, in the stores you’ll find a 34″ inseam for longs, and a 36″ inseam online for talls. Gap offers more styles than Old Navy, but I’ve found their different styles to be sized differently. I can fit anywhere from a 2 to a 6 in some of their jeans (I am normally a 4). The great thing about Gap is that they accept returns to their stores. So whenever I am at the mall, I run in and check on the sale rack (usually where the returned talls go). My personal favorite Gap style of denim is the Long & Lean.
- Banana Republic Website. Okay, so I know that Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic are all the same company, but we all know they offer different things at much different prices. The BR stores do not carry long or tall lengths. The website offers only a regular 33″ inseam but then also a 36″ long/tall inseam. While I haven’t tried their denim, I have purchased slacks from BR and love the quality. Like the Gap, you can, at time, find these longer lengths that have been returned to the stores. These are great for work!
- J Crew Website. The pants/denim on their website will have a 35″ or 36″ inseam. While their normal prices can be high, I always click on their sale page for the tall items. Tall returned items can also sometimes be found in the physical stores.
Ready to splurge for designer denim?
Thanks to JP, I found this a great website: http://searchbyinseam.com/
(Where were JP and this site when I was pregnant? I seriously could have used it then!)
This site is super easy to use and quite helpful. Simply click on what type of pant you are looking for: denim, workout, maternity, dressy, etc. On the next page, select which inseam you are looking for. You can even narrow your search by the rise of the pant, the brand, and the price range. Once you’ve entered all the info, click on ‘Show Results’. You’ll be shown images of lovely, long, pants!
For example, I searched for 35″ Jeans. Some of the brands that came up (which have also been seen on RTC) were Citizens of Humanity, AG, Aristocrat, Paige Denim, and Rich & Skinny. Now, if you click on the pictures of the denim on that site, you’ll be taken to a different web site where you can purchase the pants… but at full price! Yikes! Why pay full price when we have RTC?
We know RTC sells all items at a wonderful discounted price. RTC also has sold DVB denim which has a 35″ inseam.
I hope that all the girlies out there with long legs find this information helpful. So remember to embrace your height. Being tall has lots of advantages. Since it is a bit harder to find denim in a normal store, it totally justifies splurging on designer denim that fits great!
