This site gets many regulars from all over. We have many differences – some are students, others work full time, some are mommies, and others don’t have kids. Even our tastes in clothes differ. From Zlush to LinQ, Lucky Brand to Paige Premium. But one of the things that unite us all is that we all need to pamper ourselves sometimes.
Between midterms (I had three last week and one this week), kids (I have two that are growing up way too fast), husbands or boyfriends, work (or the search for work), and everything else, life is crazy! Often, we tend to put everyone, or everything, before our own needs. Sometimes we just need a break.
For the past couple of weeks, I finally took some time to pamper myself for a change (thank you federal tax return). It was amazing and I totally recommend it. Let me tell you more and give you some suggestions. I’ll be doing this over the course of a few different blog posts.
Shopping
Well, duh, we all know how good “retail therapy” can be. During my pampering, I went to the mall by myself. Now for some of you, this may not be a big deal, but I have two kids and rarely get alone shopping time. It felt nice to get away and browse window displays, try on clothes, and only go into stores that caught my eye.
I went to Sephora and, after getting color recommendations from a consultant, bought some new eyeshadow, lip gloss, brow powder (and a brush to apply it). Four items isn’t much, but my makeup looks awesome today. Why not try going to your favorite makeup store or counter and try a new color or item. Do you have a special event coming up? Ask a consultant for suggestions based on what colors you plan on wearing, or see what new items your favorite cosmetics company has come out with. I know Sephora has their Beauty Insiders Club (a loyalty program) where members receive special offers for new samples. But trying out a new lip gloss or eye color can make you feel great.
I also love to browse clearance racks at my favorite stores. For example, New York & Company had great slacks (with my inseam, believe it or not) for $7.99. Now, I don’t work, but these are a great second option for going out to dinner with friends. They will come in handy for the marketing presentation I have coming up at the end of the semester. (Ooh, I can pair it with the LinQ V-neck top I have in my cart for a great look). But when I find a great deal on a clearance rack, not only do I feel pampered, but I feel great that I didn’t spend too much.
And of course, you can’t talk about shopping without mentioning RedTagCrazy! For the times we can’t get away to the mall alone, Melissa and the rest of the Admins always have great items for us to grab at awesome prices. We can still get that retail therapy from the comfort of home. Besides, the mall doesn’t wrap my purchases in the same cute pink tissue paper and black box.
Sometimes, for me, even a small purchase can lift my spirits. Like maybe a great scented candle, or a cute new notebook and pen (I heart office supplies), or a yummy smelling hand lotion. Then, each time I light the candle, whip out my pen to write, or put lotion on, I am reminded of how great it made me feel to buy it.
So it is like the retail therapy is just a gift that keeps on giving. It is nice to do something for yourself every once in a while. Remember… you are worth it.
Stay tuned… my next blog will be coming soon with other ways to pamper yourself.
