Drugstore Treasures Part 1

March 31st, 2009 by Paula in Photos, RedTagCash, anything goes, paula, red tag crazy blog, shopping

There is something special about a drugstore; a sense of nostalgia that hearkens back to the five and dimes of old (ok, before my time, but what can I say, I love old movies). When I have the time (and am free of child helpers), I love to poke around a drugstore looking for inexpensive treasures. My treasure search is usually dominated by the makeup and sundries area, but I also like to take a spin around the store looking for some odd items that I possibly don’t need, but definitely cannot live without; such as, a beach bag, funky pillow or sparkly hair adornments. Whatever the find, I always feel thrilled by my new item and  its price. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am fully aware that quality is often reflected in the price. However, that never seems to dampen my excitement. I still leave the store feeling like I have made a new discovery.

So, all that being said, I wanted to share with you some of my more recent and/or favorite drugstore gems.

1. Boots Botanics Eye Cream & Boots Botanics Night Moisture Cream

Price: $13.99

This is easily one of my favorite finds to date. With all the expensive lotions, creams and moisturizers on the market, this stands out (to me anyway) as one of the better products. Plus, as an added bonus, Boots is made up of natural ingredients like grape extract for hydration and ginseng for skin renewal. The eye cream is gentle and lightweight, easily residing under makeup, and the night cream leaves my sometimes dry skin feeling hydrated, but not greasy.

2. New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust

Price: $3.99

Maybe it goes back to my theatre days, but I cannot resist a sparkly loose powder eye shadow. The N.Y.C. eye dust comes in a cute little spill proof jar, with a built in brush, and the colors are very subtle and pretty. Below is one of my favorite colors, “champagne”.

3. Dove Cool Moisture Foaming Facial Cleanser

Price: $6.50

This wonderful and inexpensive cleanser is gentle, with ¼ hydrating lotion that cleans and hydrates at the same time. Sure, there are all kinds of cleansers on the market from cheap to expensive. I have found, though, that the product Dove makes is both affordable and effective. Plus, one container of this lasts for a very long time because you only need to use a very small amount each time you cleanse.

4. Finishing Touch Lumina Lighted Hair Removal with Pivoting Head

Price: $10.00

This is one of my most recent discoveries. Maybe not great for every day (I still prefer waxing), but great for in a pinch. This little tool that is about the size of a mascara tube, removes hair from the face, bikini, eyebrows or arms without pulling or cutting. It also has a little light that allows you to see fine hairs. It is battery operated and is small enough to carry in your purse or while traveling, for a quick touch up!

I recently discovered Boots as well. The rep sort of cornered me at Target while I was buying diapers! I bought the toner and so far love it. She said they are #1 in the UK. I will try the eye cream next, thanks!
