How to: Survive College

April 25th, 2009 by Cayla in Cayla, College, Red Tag Crazy, anything goes, red tag crazy blog

College life can be quite stressful at times. Especially whenever your taking 18 hours, working 20+ hours a week and attempting to make at least 3 appearances per week at the local YMCA, not to mention trying to manage somewhat of a social life as well as maintain a serious relationship. The luxury of college, however, is that we get to choose our own class schedule, which gives us the option of sleeping in a few days a week, if we choose. College is also pretty awesome in the sense that you can literally roll out of bed, put on a baseball cap, some sweats and flip flops and be on your way to class in no time.

Sure, there are a few con’s when it comes to college; but there are also some pretty awesome things about college life, too. Some might even say that if you do things the right way, these could be the best years of your life.

I have somehow managed to make it through 3 years of college without failing or repeating a single course. Yes, I have spent many, MANY a night in the library until closing time. I’ve pulled all nighters, drank my fair share of coffee, and probably taken way to many stimulants; but hey, isn’t that what college is really about?

I’ve also made some kick ass memories, attended some pretty stellar parties, skipped my 8 oclock classes more times than necessary, tailgated for hours on end, and taken complete advantage of that whole “no dress code” thing that college is known for.

Learning to prioritize is a *must* when it comes to college life. Especially when it is costing thousands of dollars each semester for you to get an education. There is just no time to waste; it is now or never. You can either decide you want to dedicate the next 4+ years of your life to your studies, or you can choose to mess around for the first two years of college, and then spend your last two years scrambling to maintain a 2.0, because you failed to take advantage of those easy basics while you had the chance.

So, I am hoping that you will all apply yourself fully to the college experience. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to better yourself as an individual, and to broaden your career and intellectual horizons. Make the best of every moment, and in the end, you will be glad you did.

Stay tuned, I am going to go over a few things that I do to keep myself motivated and focused; hopefully some of my tips will help you, too, keep your eye on the prize, and your head in the ballgame :)
