Since I am the resident fashion newbie (well, in March I was!), I figured I would start a blog series about the celebrities I take inspiration from. Back before I found chick chat (the place where I ask about outfits on the regular!), I would do web searches for pictures of celebrities to see what they wear together. It helped me to put together outfits that made sense, since I don’t seem to have the “outfit creator” gene! The first celebrity who has inspired me throughout the years is someone I have always admired – Eva Longoria Parker.

I know she can be a polarizing topic – some people LOVE her and others HATE her; personally, I think she’s adorable, and I love her style.
We all know about her red carpet persona – like the picture above, gorgeously done hair, beautiful dresses, usually with some sort of beading or metallic flair, gorgeous heels – but I am going to focus on the less-publicized aspect of her look. Back when I was slightly tinier – in college mostly – I would try to model my outfits after her casual style. For example, I LOVE these looks for fall:

Since she’s so short (IMDB has her listed at 5′2″ but I really think she’s shorter!), these heels work really well with the first outfit. I am not really one to wear heels unfortunately, so I’d probably skip this part and go with something more like the second picture. However, the skinny-but-not-too-skinny dark wash jeans with a lighter colored, simple long sleeved top – totally something I’d wear. And I love the bulky scarves and large blue bag. LOVE this look. I could wear this now, and I have an outfit that might do the trick – Paige San Marinos and 88 Orange L/S top in Sand
Now for a cute knit scarf…
Another look of Eva’s that I adore is her travel outfits:

Casual neutral pants (maybe linen?), colored sleeveless tank with slight shirring, flip flop sandals, and carrying a hoodie in case she gets cold… this is SO me. I love her hat and glasses too – you KNOW she didn’t want to do her hair or makeup before getting on that plane, so these things work to conceal that fact. I love her haircut here too! It’s kinda like mine, except better lol! We could definitely re-create this outfit using RTC items – think ZENsei pants… any number of tanks… a Lucky hoodie… perfect.
And the last aspect of Eva’s style that I love – she wears MAXI dresses!

So… I have been told that short girls can’t wear maxi dresses without looking like they’re 3 feet tall. While Eva does look somewhat short, especially in the last picture where she’s wearing flats, she still looks really good. I would go so far as to say that she has single handedly reassured me that it’s okay for shorties to wear maxi dresses. I especially like the second picture above, where the vertical pattern gives more of an illusion of height. Of course, those platform heels don’t hurt either! Love the bags too. I would kill for an all-access pass to her closets!
By the way, is there any pair of sunglasses that DON’T look good on her? Jealous…
