May 22nd, 2009 by Cayla in Cayla, College, How To..., anything goes

Little miss sadieslynn inspired me to write this blog, so Sadies- listen up, child!

I know that making the transition from high school to college can bring on many different emotions. Excitement, anxiety, autonomy, curiosity, worry, and so forth. Any major life change triggers mixed emotions, and it is completely natural to kind of… freak out, a little bit.

Epiphanies from Freshman Year at University of Puget Sound

May 20th, 2009 by Yoyo in College, Humor, Yoyo, anything goes

You know that old cliché “It went by in the blink of an eye?” Well, it certainly describes my freshman year of college at UPS (fun fact: my school is currently undergoing the process of changing the school’s name from the University of Puget Sound to Puget Sound University. They seem to think it’d get us better press/sounds more collegiate). Anyways, here are a few things I’ve learned from my first year in college. Perhaps you guys will find them humorous, useful or relatable.

How to: Survive College (Part 3 – Studying for Tests)

May 19th, 2009 by Cayla in Cayla, College, How To..., anything goes, denim

School supplies, books, classes, papers, exams, homework, studying, coffee, libraries, headaches, all nighters, senile professors, know-it-all TA’s, grad school applications, psychology club meetings, deadlines, extra credit assignments, lectures, the list goes on and on.

These are all things that we form a love/hate relationship with during our college years. Finding a way to balance fun and freedom with back to back test’s and 10 page research papers can be pretty trying at times. The best thing we can do is to figure out some strategies that best fit our agenda, and proceed from there.

Getting a Job Out of College (Part 2)

May 8th, 2009 by Erica in College, Erica, How To..., Red Tag Crazy, anything goes, red tag crazy blog

So in my last blog, I gave some background about me, my school experiences, and introduced the fact that I had some difficulty finding work immediately out of college. I also want to clarify and emphasize that I was coming from a liberal arts college, so I was not on track for a designated career just yet.
So here’s a brief summary of what I went through after that:

College Life: “The Sub” Food and Dorm Cooking

May 6th, 2009 by Yoyo in College, Food, Humor, Yoyo, anything goes

At UPS, everybody who lives on campus has a meal plan that they (or their parents) paid for at the very beginning of the year. With those meal points you can get food from the cafes, the dining hall or the cellar. The cellar is like a mini-mart and pizza parlor combined. Our dining hall is endearingly called “the Sub.”

Getting a Job Out of College (Part 1)

April 27th, 2009 by Erica in College, Erica, Red Tag Crazy, anything goes, red tag crazy blog

If job hunting weren’t difficult enough as it is, the state of the economy is throwing another big, clunky wrench into the equation as well. When talking to younger acquaintances of mine who are still hunting for jobs, I see the familiar look of discouragement, my heart goes out to them completely – it was not that long ago when I was in the same position, though perhaps with less of an up-hill climb. Since I know many of you will be graduating soon, I feel compelled to share my own personal experiences and remind everyone not to give up hope.

This blog is not to scare you, but to show you that so many things are entirely out of your control, and you just need to keep moving forward. Something will click. (And, you could always apply for the RTC job!)

How to: Survive College

April 25th, 2009 by Cayla in Cayla, College, Red Tag Crazy, anything goes, red tag crazy blog

College life can be quite stressful at times. Especially whenever your taking 18 hours, working 20+ hours a week and attempting to make at least 3 appearances per week at the local YMCA, not to mention trying to manage somewhat of a social life as well as maintain a serious relationship. The luxury of college, however, is that we get to choose our own class schedule, which gives us the option of sleeping in a few days a week, if we choose. College is also pretty awesome in the sense that you can literally roll out of bed, put on a baseball cap, some sweats and flip flops and be on your way to class in no time.
