Fun In The Sun, Canine Style

May 20th, 2009 by Kristin C. in Animals, Kristin C., Pets, anything goes

I am so excited that summer is almost here. This means more time outside for myself and ‘the fam’ and this includes our dog. Being in full wrinkle prevention mode I am always applying sunscreen to myself and to the kids to avoid guilt inducing sunburns. Frank – the Golden Retriever – sadly does not always get the same consideration. But there are things that I always keep in mind for his safety and I will recommend for you dogs as well..

Pet Grooming: Beauty and the Beast

May 17th, 2009 by Kristin C. in Animals, Kristin C., Pets, anything goes, denim

We all know the importance to good personal grooming. When we look good we feel good. Although animals are not beauty conscious like people are there are still actual benefits to good grooming. During vet school – shockingly little attention was paid to grooming. We learned medicine and surgery. Granted, these are the things needed to be a veterinarian – but I was left ill prepared for some of the most common questions and problems brought before me daily.

All About Pets: Monkey Business…

May 14th, 2009 by Kristin C. in Kristin C., Pets, anything goes

So – after an appointment at my veterinary hospital, my wonderful co-worker “Dr G” told me about a conversation she had with one of our clients. This client is well educated, makes a great living as a real estate investor, has a successful relationship, and is HOT (ok – totally irrelevant to the story, but dude – the man is hot….). Despite being an otherwise intelligent and functioning human being, he asked Dr G what she thought about him getting a monkey. Now – I know Ross on ‘Friends’ had a monkey, and the Capuchin in ‘Night at the Museum’ is totally adorable – but – to say this as bluntly as possible…. Having a pet monkey is FRIGGING STUPID! Stupid because monkeys can hurt people. Stupid because monkeys can make people terribly sick. Stupid because the pet monkey trade is often cruel.

The Ins and Outs of Doggy Daycare

May 10th, 2009 by Kristin C. in Animals, Kristin C., Pets, Photos, Red Tag Crazy, red tag crazy blog

Doggy Daycare is a new and fascinating concept and is becoming very common in urban and suburban areas throughout the United States.     The veterinary hospital where I work has a doggy daycare associated with it and over the last 3 years I have had the opportunity to see just what it is like behind the scenes.

Raising a puppy: Houdini

May 9th, 2009 by Brian in Animals, Brian, Pets, Red Tag Crazy, Stephanie, red tag crazy blog

Well, it seems our puppy has a lazy right eye, there is just something not quite right about it. I’m not sure if it impairs his vision at all though, and he might not even know that he’s retarded. It does make it hard to keep a straight face when you are trying to scold him though, because you aren’t sure which eye is the good one, and whether or not he’s just staring off into space ignoring the crap out of us.

He’s also an effin magician. No matter how smart we think we are about trying to keep him in his pen, he’s been escaping, every. single. time. He has figured out how to climb over baby gates with ease, and also that he can push his way out of the other side.  The plus side to his escaping, is that he doesn’t destroy the house when he gets out.  When we get home, it usually looks as if he’s been sleeping, with everything all in good order, and he hasn’t peed or pooped all over.

Raising the Puppy: Stop peeing in my kitchen, fathead.

April 30th, 2009 by Brian in Animals, Brian, Humor, Pets, Red Tag Crazy, Stephanie, red tag crazy blog

Well, 90 mins is his breaking point for peeing in the kitchen (his pen) apparently, he does it every time.  Well, like 4 times in 3 days.  We’ve been reading more into his crying, and we think it has something to do with separation anxiety… in other words, he has mommy issues.. sighhhh.

Pet Care: The Dog Ate What?

April 28th, 2009 by Kristin C. in Animals, Kristen C, Pets, Red Tag Crazy, red tag crazy blog

Hi Guys – thanks for the awesome response from my last blog about Princess Daisy – the little broke n kitten!    To update – Daisy’s bandages have come off and she is doing great.    She still has some healing to do, but we are getting ready to send her to a foster home where she can have  more room to roam and act more like a normal kitten.

Since it seems that everyone on RTC loves animals ALMOST as much as they love fashion – I thought I would touch base on some newer (but common in most homes) that are toxic to dogs……

Raising the Puppy: Battle of the Whine

April 28th, 2009 by Brian in Animals, Brian, Humor, Pets, Red Tag Crazy, Stephanie, anything goes, red tag crazy blog

t’s 4:30 am, and I think I actually managed to sneak away with almost 5 hours of sleep tonight. We opted to go sans crate, and trade it for just a giant fluffy doggy bed and a leash, mostly so he could leave the mirror alone. The howling stopped completely, and he slept really well… Still waking up every 2 hours to pee, but he’s a puppy. We are sitting in the living room right now, he’s really restless. I’m trying to convince him that not every single thing in this house is edible, but he’s not catching on very fast. He has chewed on the tv trays, the rug in the living room, my computer, and his pen…. all in the last 15 minutes. Luckily he enjoys his chew toys, so i just give him a quick “no” or “not yours” and replace it with HIS toy. It’s been working.

Raising a Puppy: The Howling is the Hardest Part

April 25th, 2009 by Brian in Brian, Humor, Pets, Red Tag Crazy, red tag crazy blog

Really? I mean… I knew that there would be some whining at night, possibly a little barking… but howling? Like a warewolf that is taken in by the full moon, Chubbs was at it ALL. NIGHT. LONG. I figured he would stop at some point, because well… even I would get bored.
